Healthy Fake Out Apple Pie A La Mode

February 25, 2013

I’ve been on a serious HOT pie and COLD ice cream craving kick lately.

Which is fine to have every once in awhile, but everyday for two weeks…could you imagine? Well, ok, yes I could totally imagine it. I could even totally do it. But, I surprisingly don’t really want to do it.

While I love to let myself eat the things I want, I don’t think I’m at the point where pie and ice cream for 14 days could find it’s way in to my mouth. I’ve got to show restraint somewhere. And I’m choosing to show it again the dang pie.

So what is a pregnant lady to do then to kick the craving? Well, make a fake out of course! And this fake out is legit. It’s not the kind of fake out that leaves you wanting more. It’s the kind of fake out that is almost better than the real thing.

Actually. Get ready for this. I think I actually prefer this fake out to the real thing. Yes, I think I might have lost my mind. But I’m telling you, there’s something about this bowl that I am totally in love with.

Apples, cinnamon, oats, syrup. This is the fake out for the apple pie part. I heat this up to soften the apples, just like you’d find in pie. But they still have a little crispness and texture to them. Totally addicting.

When they come out of the microwave I top them with some vanilla yogurt. I think you know this is my ice cream fake out. The yogurt starts to melt just a little, but still stays so thick and creamy. Being mixed with those oatey apples gives the perfect fake apple pie a la mode bite.

And this I have actually been eating for the last 14 days. No lie.

Such a great idea and so much easier than making an actual pie!

YUM! I have been doing this myself but using a bit of brown sugar instead of syrup. I never thought to top it with some yogurt. Guess I know what I’m trying tonight for dessert. 😉

Hmm. Actually, warmed, softened apples, a little syrup (or honey) and fat free Greek yogurt could be really awesome! Now I want some and there are no apples in the house and it’s pouring rain outside. 🙁
