Online Bake Sale for Sam’s Fund

May 8, 2013

Today I’m posting about a special request.

My friend Miranda contacted me a few days ago asking for some help. She is participating in a half marathon on June 9th in honor of her friend Sam who took his own life in January of this year. The half marathon is hosted by Sam’s family who has set up a charity in his name to raise money for suicide prevention.

Here’s a little about the Sam’s Fund:

Sam’s Fund is a scholarship founded in 2013 in honor of Samuel David Crismon. Sam was an extraordinary young musician who aspired to be the best at everything he put his heart towards. To his family and friends, he was a continual source of encouragement and light. He made it impossible not to smile whenever he was near. Sam’s life mattered.

On January 10, 2013, Sam took his own life. To his friends and family, Sam maintained that infectious smile, unwilling to introduce negativity into the lives of those he loved. To find a person with such zeal for life is a rarity, and something worth cherishing.

More than anything, Sam’s passion was music. An avid songwriter, poet, and jazz guitarist, the guy was completely consumed with his love for music. A contributing factor to his downfall was the notion of failure Sam developed concerning his pursuit of music. He felt as though he had shot and missed the target; that at the young age of 26, opportunity had passed him by.

In response to the loss of their son and brother, The Crismon family has founded “Sam’s Fund” with the intention to provide a young person with a second chance to pursue their dreams. The intent of this scholarship is to continue Sam’s legacy by funding the life of another extraordinary young person. Life matters.

The mission of Sam’s fund is to provide an aspiring artist with the resources to develop their unique talents and pursue their passions.

Here’s how you can help:

I’ve offered up my blog to Miranda to use it for an Online Bake Sale to help raise money for Sam’s Fund.

So, I am calling all bakers, bloggers, foodies, and anyone who wants to help in the cause to prevent suicide and fund life to participate in this Online Bake Sale. If you are interested in baking up something yummy to submit to the bake sale to be auctioned off for this charity, please email me at stephsbitebybite@gmail.com.

The bake sale will be held on Tuesday, May 28th. All bake sale entries must be submitted by Thursday, May 23rd.

I hope you’ll help in this great Charity event!

This is such a great cause! I’m an artist and I know how difficult it can be to persue your dreams and passions and how the negativity of people and even youself can really affect you. Im lucky enough to have a partner that is completly supportive of me even when I feel as if I’m just going in circles. I think this is wonderful what they are trying to accomplish and I truly wish them all the luck in the world. Unfortunatly I cant contribute anything because I live in Australia and lets face it no one wants to eat a cupcake or a cookie that has flown and been in the post for 2 weeks. If i was closer I would deffinatly send something in! I hope the bake sale goes really well for you.
