What a fun week this was!
Logan has gotten so social, I just love it. Even though he can’t say actual words, he talks so much. And I almost feel like I know what he saying. So him and I share conversations all day long. It’s so incredible. At the end of the day I feel like I just spent hours talking and giggling and learning more about my little man. I don’t feel like I’m all alone at home during the day anymore.
I love watching him take everything in. I feel like I’m getting to re-experience life all over a gain through him. He just realized one of the rings on his giraffe actually has two smaller rings on it. He was playing with it the other day, shaking it back and forth and all of the sudden stopped. I looked to see what caught his attention and he was just staring in awe at the two new rings that he discovered on the bigger ring. He gazed for minutes. I could see his little brain churning, almost like he was thinking that these were just put on there.
We’re trying to work in more tummy time. He hates it, but is getting so much better at holding that head up way high. And even though he really doesn’t bobble anymore he can’t sit up without support. I also keep waiting for him to get the urge to roll over. When he’s down on his mat, I roll him back and forth to get him used to it, but he has shown no interest in wanting to do it on his own yet.
With Logan being more social he’s starting to become such an attention hog. When he’s awake it’s almost impossible for me to do anything but play. He just wants constant interaction…and I have no problem giving it to him. He gets so excited when I walk up to him or he sees my face across the room. Melts my heart.
The funniest interaction we have with each other now is when he’s nursing. As soon as he’s done feeding he’ll unlatch and sit there mumbling. It cracks me up. And the whole time he’s doing it he’s got his hands clasped together fiddling with his fingers. He also loves to hold my arm now when I change his diaper. It is so cute!! And his hands are starting to explore during diaper changes. I’m so not ready for him to start finding his little wiener! Oh, and speaking of funny interactions, you’ve got to see this little guy laugh!
My new nickname for him is Spikey Head, because every morning when I go in and get him out of his crib his hair is so spikey and looks like it grew overnight.
Oh! So the other day I was putting Logan in his car seat/carrier and noticed that he was too long for the straps to be set on the lowest setting. I adjusted the straps up to the next level and as I was flipping the car seat up and down and back and forth I saw the maximum weight limit for the seat. 22 lbs. Logan is 1 pound away from that!! I was SHOCKED! We’ve been saying that he is getting too big looking for his carrier, but we had no idea that he was actually getting too big for it. We have a different kind of car seat that we can use, but our issue is that we can’t sit Logan somewhere like a high chair or a shopping cart and have him just sit up. He’s not strong enough yet. So if we move him to the bigger car seat we now have to take the carrier with us just to have a place for him. Boo to extra items!
…and this little hulk is now in size 3 diapers. Yeah. Another shocker. I have 8 boxes of smaller diapers that I plan to take to Wal-Mart and exchange. [Big tip: Wal-Mart will exchange any, any, box of unopened diapers WITHOUT a receipt! SCORE]. His 6 month clothes are now starting to fit a little snug too. What is this kid eating?!
Now lets talk sleep! OMG! I feel like we have hit a new high. Logan is now sleeping almost through the night! He’s waking up one time to feed and that is it! Hello sleep. I have missed you. Naps are starting to get better. Remember I was struggling with Logan wanting to be picked up and held when he started crying for a nap? Well, I’ve got a new trick up my sleeve! It’s the Magic Merlin Sleep Suit. I know this thing looks crazy, but it is really helping Logan.
He is too big for his Swaddle Me wrap now, but he isn’t comfortable yet sleeping without a swaddle. I had some of you recommend this transition suit and it is fabulous! He is still waking up mid nap and crying, but now I can go in his room, give him his paci and gently rock/rub his belly for a few minutes, and he goes back to sleep. No picking up! I think the reason is because he isn’t really kicking his legs around now with the suit like he was in the swaddle. I would try not picking him up when he was in the swaddle, but he would starting kicking his feet up and down and get him self all worked up. He can’t really do that in this suit, so he stays calm and more relaxed. Granted, it’s still a little work for me to get him back to sleep, but no picking him up was a huge break through for me.
I think this is part of the reason he’s sleeping through the night now too. He is just able to sleep more calmly because his body isn’t confined and restricted by the swaddle, which he hated.
I’ve also been taking to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter asking your recommendations on when to start sleep training. I plan to use the Ferber Method to sleep train the little man. Even though he’s almost sleeping through the night I’m not able to just lay him down awake and walk out of his room. I have to work at getting him to fall asleep and he fights me like no tomorrow. So, sleep training is something we’re planning on doing. But I’ve heard so many different things of what age is good to start doing this that I feel so confused. ADVICE?
