Logan: 21 Weeks Old

September 5, 2013

My little baby looks like he is turning in to a little boy.

When I look at him now, I just don’t see a little baby anymore. He just looks so grown up to me. It almost makes me forget that he’s only 5 months old. Tear.

This week has been all kinds of interesting, mostly because of this little tooth we’re dealing with.

This week has definitely been filled with more crying and tears. The other day I almost felt like Logan was back to his needy, crying newborn stage. Every time I would put him down he would just scream out [in pain I assume]. I spent that whole day just holding him, bouncing him, rocking him, and giving extra lovin’. He actually fell asleep in my arms which he hasn’t done in a LONG time. Melted my heart. His naps and nighttime sleep is a little thrown off too. Naps have gotten a little shorter and usually end with a crying fit. And he’s been waking up a lot in the middle of the night. I just [yesterday] started using Baby Orajel before naps and before bedtime and it seems to be helping a lot. We tried using teething tablets for him, but they seemed to be making him spit up more, and he would cry out like crazy before bed – we stopped the tablets and he stopped doing that – so no more tablets.

It’s just heartbreaking because you know that getting teeth has got to hurt, but there’s really not a whole lot you can do to help them. I would say his tooth is probably half the way up now, and the gum next door is starting to look a little swollen, so I think tooth #2 is trying to break out.

But, little man has had some really good moments this week too. He is starting to become a master at rolling from back to tummy. He does it so quickly now without really any struggle, but still hasn’t learned how to get himself back over. So, when he gets frustrated and tired of being on his tummy he does these hi pitched screams and I go and turn him over. It feels like he’s playing a game with me. He owns me.

OhemG! His little jumper arrived and he is in love with it! He can spend probably a good hour jumping away in it. He laughs and squeals so hard — with drool flying everywhere. I just sit and watch him play and laugh. It’s it too cute. Every time he’s in it he gets mesmerized by all the little things to play with, like it’s the first time he’s ever seen them. Oh to be a kid again.

Elephants are his new obsession. We have lots of them, since that was the theme for his nursery. When I pull one out his eyes go buggy, his little legs start kicking like crazy and his hands are trying desperately to grab it from me. And once he gets it the trunk goes straight in his mouth. No joke. He loves to bite the trunks. I think he’s also starting to get a little ticklish. I gnaw on his belly and on his neck by his ear and he squeals and goes in to a laughing rage. The hair is out of control. I kid that I’m either gonna cut it off or start gelling in down. But seriously! Left index finger has suddenly become a hook in his mouth. He’s always got the finger pushed way back in his mouth.

I had tried, like I mentioned last week, to have him sleep with his arms out of his magic sleep suit and after a few days of restless, short sleep, I decided to go back to arms in. I’m not sure if the restlessness is from his tooth, or from not having his arms in the suit, but I decided to wait to ease out of the sleep suit until the bottom teeth have come in. I don’t want to go through two major things at once. And he seems so much more relaxed and comfortable with his suit, so it’s gonna stay.

We went on a road trip for Labor Day weekend, about a three hour drive, and Logan did really good. He took a few small naps on the way out there and then mostly just played with his little carseat toys. On the way back home we timed our drive with his nap and he almost slept the whole way home. He woke up about 45 minutes away from the house, he started crying and we hoped he’d go back to sleep, but no dice. So, I climbed in the back with him and played until we got home. He was so happy to be able to stay up past his bedtime. Seeing how good he did made me feel a little more relaxed about our upcoming 7-8 hour drive to Denver. Anyone have any tips for LONG car rides with babies?

Oh Steph he has the most beautiful eyes!

Have you seen any of those amber teething necklaces (or even little bracelets?) I didn’t use them but quite a few of my girlfriends swear by them. Hope you have a better week xo

Awe, poor little guy. Teething hurts. 🙁 Nothing you can do but give him some love and wait it out. And then, in a few years, you get to do it all over again when his baby teeth fall out. 🙂
