Logan: 23 Weeks Old

September 17, 2013

All of a sudden this week turned in to sleep HELL week!

The last few days of naps and bedtime have been super rough. Normally the routine is feed, read a book, change the diaper, get in sleep suit, and lay down no problem. Sometimes Logan will pass right out and other times he’ll roll around in his crib for a few minutes and then pass out. Well, the last three nights and naps have not gone so smoothly. Logan will fall asleep in my arms while I’m nursing him, so then I change him and put him in his crib and he starts crying. And he doesn’t stop.

I know it’s tooth #2, but dang!!

My thoughts are that yes, he’s in a little pain or discomfort from the tooth coming up, but I think part of it is that he is just being a little stubborn. And the reason I say this is because if he were in this much pain he would be crying throughout the day too. Which he doesn’t. He is totally fine and normal during the day. So last night when we did the bedtime routine and I walked out of his room to screams, Lucas and I decided to just let him cry and check on him every 10 minutes.

It about killed me, but I knew he was fully fed, he had a clean diaper, and that he was safe. I went in 4 times, which, if your counting means it took him 40 minutes to fall asleep. But he got through it [and actually only woke up once in the middle of the night]. Lucas and I had to keep supporting each other through the crying, but for us, we just knew he was so tired and that he was just fighting his bedtime.

Hoping this stops, because I don’t want every night to turn in to this!

In other news, this little baby has become such a little squealer. The best way I can describe it, is that he sounds like a little pterodactyl. And he just squeaks at the top of his lungs. I love it!

Were having a difficult time going out and about though. Like I mentioned last week, we changed out Logan’s carrier to a car seat, which is great and all, until we need to go in to a restaurant or grocery shopping. He can’t sit up alone yet, so we’ve been taking the carrier too, so that he has something to sit in. And it’s kind of a pain to take him out of the car seat go to the carrier, strap him in, carry him in the store, take him out of the carrier, and strap him back in the car seat. I have an ergo, but I really don’t wanna strap that thing on just to go in the store. I put him in the grocery cart yesterday and he did pretty good, unless he would look up high at something then he would start to fall over sideways and it would freak me out. So, I’m still trying to find the best way to do this.

When I carry Logan around now he has full control of his body, and he has started to look straight in my face when I carry him. Then he puts his little hands up on my cheeks and just laughs! Like he thinks walking and being able to see me is the coolest thing. While I was running my half marathon Lucas took Logan out for a walk in the stroller and didn’t use the carrier clip in. So yesterday I wanted to try it too.

I strapped him in and off we went. He was SOO cute. He was just looking around at everything and taking it all in. This is the best part of having a baby, you almost get to re-experience the world again, and you learn to see the beauty in all the small things.

Crying it out is so hard! I am starting to do it with Aiden too. He really needs it during the nighttime wakings.

sounds like a little sleep regression. If it was a tough it would be bugging him all day I’d think. You already know he can sleep through the night so I’d leave him if he wakes he’s not hungry. He just needs to learn to self soothe himself back to sleep. Maybe try changing him before he nurses so you don’t have to wake him by changing him:) Just a thought:) But again all thoughts as your his momma and know him best! And it’s whatever works for you and him. But just wanted to offer some advice in case it’s stuff you haven’t thought of yet! Good luck!

Oh, You should give the ergo a try while grocery shopping. It makes it SO easy. With practice, you’ll get really fast at putting him in and out. Plus, it leaves you hands free to push the cart, get things off the shelf, etc. I used to do a running commentary on the entire trip to my daughter, and she loved it.

I love his funny face in the second to last one! So sorry sleep time has been such a nightmare – I can only imagine how hard it must be to let your baby cry, esp for that long. I bet he will start going to sleep faster though, knowing that crying won’t get him any attention. And his puffy hair is so cute. I love how you brush it over to the side.
