Logan: 24 Weeks Old

September 25, 2013

This week kicked off our Fall Travel schedule!

And man…traveling with a baby is so much different. [I plan to do a full post about how we did and plan to do it]. Within the next 2 months we are taking two road trips with Logan, a flight to San Diego, and a flight to Hawaii. And it has got me nervous but excited.

Our first road trip happened last weekend when we drove down to El Paso. The trip went surprisingly well! We haven’t done a road trip with Logan since he was a newborn…and sleeping all the time. So the concern was how is he gonna do now that he’s older and doesn’t just sleep all day. We made sure to bring him some toys to play with and had a bottle ready. He only fussed a few times, but for the most part he did really well. We made sure to take stops and get him out of the car seat which helped. I also sat in the backseat with him for the last hour of trip just to keep him company and he really liked that.

We were able to get him to nap, but the naps were vary short, about 30 minutes, since he’s just not used to having to sleep in a car. But every time he would wake up he was bright eyed and happy. So, it worked for us.

The next trip is to Denver, which is a longer drive, but we’re hoping it goes just as smoothly.

This week was a good week in the rolling department. Logan is so fast now at rolling from back to tummy and this week has started to slowly roll from tummy to back. He can’t do it as fast, but he is definitely trying hard to roll back over to where he started. And now it seems like he is getting so much more comfy being on his tummy.

I’ve caught him a few times just laying on his tummy with his head down on the mat snuggling with his blanket. It is so precious.

The screeching pterodactyl noise is still happening in full force. But I love it because it’s like he’s trying to talk to me. And he is all about grabbing at your face if your holding him now. The other day he actually leaned in to me, mouth wide open and started sucking on my lips. I took it as him giving me a kiss! So, so sweet.

We also have been sitting him in a highchair this week at the restaurants when we went out to eat! So fun! Of course, I’m a germ freak, so I have a high chair cover and make sure to wipe down the table before he starts touching it. But he seems to love sitting right there at the table with us. He still can’t fully sit up, but the little harness on the highchair cover helps to keep him upright.

I’ve tried sitting him in the shopping cart, and it’s not as easy or good as the high chair. It’s a little too open, so he falls sideways and freaks me out. But just being able to try these different things is getting so exciting. Makes him even more of a big boy.

His new favorite thing is to take a walk in the morning sitting up in the stroller. He is so fascinated with everything around him. He doesn’t make a peep the whole time we walk because he’s so busy looking around at everything. I’ll look down at him and he’ll see me and he just laughs and giggles. He’s definitely an outside boy. That’s the only thing that’s gonna get hard with the weather starting to change.

I’m contemplating when to pull back on his nightly feedings. Right now he’s waking up 2 times in the night to feed. If I try and give him a paci or rock him instead of immediately feeding him he goes in to full-blown tantrum mode. So I’m not sure how to start weaning him off the feedings. But I know he’s getting old enough and big enough to not need them anymore. I was waiting until he’s teeth came all the way up before making my decision on what to do, and now that they’re up and out, I’m thinking of just committing to sleep training him.

Oh man!

Your little man is getting so big! Cherish each and every day while he’s so sweet and tiny. Such a beautiful boy with those blue-blue eyes and long lashes…and, that killer smile! *heart melting* Thanks for sharing, Steph!

Road trips get harder as they get older! We had our first road trip when my daughter was four months old. She was five months when we flew for the first time. I always sit in the back with her during a road trip, she likes the company and I hand her new toys to play with. I’ll also read her books and play games with her on the iPad. Snacks are also a good distraction when they’re tired of being stuck in the car seat.

Good luck with sleep training! We sleep trained at six months but I kept one middle of the night feeding until she was around ten months old.

Your travel schedule rivals mine, and I can’t even imagine with a baby. You are all troopers, Logan too. Safe travels and seriously–he is beautiful!

When you guys fly to Hawaii, ask for the bulk head seating, you will have more room and its close to the restrooms.
