Logan: 28 Weeks Old

October 23, 2013

I feel like this was another milestone week for Logan.

So many things happened this week! It’s so funny how some weeks a whole bunch of things happen and then other weeks it gets kind of quiet.

First, lets talk food. [I used to only talk about sleep, now it seems I only talk about food]. Baby Led Weaning is going GREAT!! It is incredible how fast Logan is catching on to feeding himself and knowing how much to put in to his mouth. He’s also started the chewing action, even though he only has his two bottom front teeth, he still gets a piece of food back where the molars would be and gnaws on them. I love it!

And can we just take a moment here to say that the boy is obsessed with bread. At lunch I’ve been giving him bread that I’ve cut in to big sticks so that he can hold it, and he goes to town on those bread hunks.

I’m trying to offer him a variety of things when he/we eat so that he learns different tastes and textures. But when he really likes something it’s hard not to use that as the go to item. But progress we must! I don’t want him to get hooked on just certain types of food.

I just changed up his nursing schedule to, to help better accommodate this new solid food stuff. I used to nurse him right when he woke up in the morning and then before every nap. But now with the solids, it’s kind of throwing that off. Because when he wakes up I nurse him and then he eats breakfast with me, where I give him a little of my oatmeal or some fruit and yogurt. By the time we’re done with this it’s almost time for his first nap and I don’t want to nurse him right after eating his solids like that.

It just all seemed to close together. So today I changed it to nursing him when he wakes, then eat breakfast, play for a little bit, then nap, then nurse him when he wakes up from a nap, and kind of continue this throughout the day. And it is actually working out pretty good. I didn’t know how he was going to do with not being nursed before going to sleep, but he didn’t seem to have any issues with it. YAY!!

Next on the milestone list, another tooth!!! His top right front tooth is on it’s way. His gums have been swollen for weeks. But two days ago when he woke up that tooth’s gum was really swollen and white on the bottom.

It’s so weird how different teeth look coming up from the bottom gums and down from the top gums. But these top teeth look like they hurt even worse than the bottom teeth. He keeps bonking his swollen-ness on his toys and immediately starts crying. Poor little guy. He’s been a little more fussy with this tooth [I’m thinking this may have been his butthead issue from last week]. But all in all he seems to be taking it like a champ.

We are so close to sitting up!! We use the boppy breastfeeding pillow as a little barrier. If he sits real still he can totally sit up, but when he leans to the side, down he goes. He can lean forward to reach his toys and sit back up, but it’s the side to side that’s getting him. But I think within the next few days he’ll have it down. [Still can’t really roll over from tummy to back…is it weird that he can sit before rolling?] I love looking over at him just sitting by himself playing with his toys in the living room while I cook. He’ll glance over at me from time to time and just bust out in a giggle. Melts my heart!

Some other things from this week:
-Logan has learned to turn the elephant on his jumpy chair [for anyone who has this jumpy chair, you know this elephant is hard to turn!]
-TONS of mumbling happening!
-He’s all the sudden started touching his little weenie when I change his diaper – I hate it
-When he wakes up from naps now he snuggle on my shoulder, I’m counting this is a hug
-He’s noticed his reflection on the little chrome water overflow thing in the bath and only wants to play with that
-Some 9 month clothes are all the sudden to small, lord help me
-Suddenly started sleeping on his side
-He’s starting to learn how to throw a tantrum – I’m not impressed
-He saw some ducks for the first time ever

He just gets cuter and cuter! I’m curious if Logan is still sleeping through the night for you. We’re about to start sleep training and I’m hoping for all of us that it won’t be a long process. Thanks!

Thanks Gretchen! The biggest key to sleep training is sticking to your guns! It’s gonna be hard to hear the crying, but stay strong!!! I actually ended up turning the monitor off and fell asleep LOL woke up 20 minutes later to find him passed out

Do you still use the sleep suit for Logan at night? I used it after reading about it on your site. It is incredible! So incredible that I worry when he will no longer fit into it.
