5 ways we’re getting ready for Back to School

August 12, 2017

We’re coming down the home stretch of summer [kind of thankful, kind of sad, kind of can’t believe that we’re already heading to fall], and with school starting back up, I thought I’d share a few ways that we’re getting ready for it.

  1. Building up the excitement — Logan is a little one who doesn’t like change. He takes a while to be excited about new things…especially something like a new classroom. So, to start getting him happy about going back to school, we’ve got a First Day of School Countdown happening. Each morning, he wakes up, and literally the first thing he does is mark off a day. This is really helping him to kind of build that anticipation and be excited about that first day back.
  2. Chore chart — This is something that I haven’t done yet, but as we head in to the last weeks of no-school, I’m realizing that I’m going to need a little more help getting us out the door. If I can give Logan some tasks to help me with, this will build up his self confidence, instilling that action of getting ready, but also helping me to not have to hover over him.
  3. Working on weaving in the school work — Just in the last few days I’ve been trying to add in little pieces of school work to our day. Going back over letters, working on writing, counting, each day I give Logan a few workbook papers to do. He’s such a little sponge, and actually when we sit down together and do learning activities, I can tell that his brain just loves it.
  4. New clothes — I mean duh….new school year, bigger kid, and finding some new fun shirts for the school year, gets anyone excited!!
  5. Splurging on these last weeks of fun in the sun — letting Logan play for just a few more minutes with the hose, or eat just one more popsicle, dance a little longer in the sprinkler, watch a kid’s movie in the middle of the day. Yes, we’re reeling in the summer, but he’s still got a little time left, and he’s still just a little kid. And I just want him to have so much fun, before it’s back to school, and summer is gone.

What are some ways that you guys are getting ready to go Back to School?
