A whole day of traveling. Not even kidding. We woke up at 4 AM. Flight #1 was at 8:00. They tried to tell us that we needed a VISA and almost didn’t let us board. Luckily, 20 minutes before our plane was leaving Delta figured out that you don’t need a passport to go to Liberia, Costa Rica. (They thought we we’re going to the Middle East —- Uumm…)
We made a pit stop in Atlanta. Where we had a 5 hour layover. Kill me. I guess Atlanta believes that it’s suddenly 100 degrees and needs to blast the A/C on high. I had to buy and airport blankie just to keep from catching hypothermia.
Flight #2 was at 5:35 PM. We sat in our plane on the runway for an hour. And the guy in front of me has no clue about the invention of deodorant. When we were airborne I told my self I deserved a drink.
A stiff drink was enjoyed while watching the inflight movie My Week with Marilyn. Thank goodness for the entertainment. Because this is what my husband did on both flights.
We arrived in Tamarindo almost 4 hours later. It was dark out. I was suddenly nervous about being in a foreign country. We walked off the plane in to a beautiful NEW airport. All the counters were stocked with airport employees ready to check us in. I was shocked that we were in and out of customs in five minutes. Yes. FIVE minutes. And every single worker had a smile on their face. Something I’d never seen in the States.
Edmundo was our shuttle driver. From Liberia we were to take an hour long shuttle ride to Tamarindo. On our ride we learned about the best bar to go to, that breakfast is rice and beans mixed together (and lunch is rice and beans served separately), we talked bikes, surfing, drinks, coffee, and volcanoes. Edmundo also taught us some slang. He’s 24.
It was pitch black when we arrived at the hotel, but Lucas and I were already in love with it. We knew we were getting ready to experience Por Vida! (That’s the Costa Rican motto) Because this is what we woke up to.

Glad to hear customs wasn’t too bad. I’m off to Europe next month and I’m not looking forward to that long travel day. That view is awesome though. Well worth the long flight day I’m sure.
Awesome! Have a safe trip! I’m Jealous!!!
So, so gorgeous–it sounds like you’re in for an amazing trip! I can’t wait to see more pics and hear more stories.
haha so easy travel day, right? Hope you have an amazing trip! I went to Costa Rica a couple years ago while my best friend was studying there and fell in love with it! Your pictures look gorgeous! I’m dying for that beach and blue water!
Getting there is never any fun. There are definitely times where you feel like you are a sardine in a can! Anyhow, I think it was awesome that you arrived at night, for that vision in the morning is so much more appreciated than when you see it being tired and ready to unpack.
I know you are probably enjoying some fun and drinking out of a coconut as I type! I look forward to seeing more of Costa Rica in your posts.
I hope you enjoy Costa Rica.We loved it there!
Looks amazing!
And I know how you feel, I travel to and from Germany all the time, plus other places, and almost always are their issues with flights and friendlier customs people outside of the U.S….
enjoy your honeymoon Steph!
Oh days of traveling…I’m gearing up for our trip to Paris. I need to be prepared! I loved following you guys along as you made it from here to there. Much less painless than the real process, I guess! Thank you for sharing, sweet girl.
Enjoy your honeymoon/vacation. You deserve it. I hope you and your husband have lots of adventures, fun in the sun & a chance to relax and enjoy each other.
